ISBIS-5 was held in Lima, Peru, 11-13 January 2006. The conference organiser from ISBIS was Geoff Vining, while the local host was the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. San Marcos was founded on 12 May 1551 and is the largest university in Peru. The official languages of the conference were English and Spanish. Plenary speakers were Bill Meeker (Iowa State University), Doug Montgomery (Arizona State University) and Daniel Peņa (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid).
Talks ranged from very applied to cutting edge research. The exchange of knowledge and experiences aimed to foster international collaboration in research and other technology transfer activities and to provide an opportunity for dialogue between statisticians in Latin America and the international community.
